Day 1: Travel to Sauraha, Tharu village walk

Travel by tourist coach from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Sauraha (about 5–6 hours). In the afternoon, visit a Tharu village and watch the sunset by the Rapti river, followed by a Tharu cultural dance.

Day 2: Canoe ride, jungle walk and jeep safari

Glide down the Rapti river in a dugout canoe looking for crocodiles and birds, then continue on a guided jungle walk. In the afternoon, a jeep safari takes you deep into the national park in search of rhinos, deer, wild boar and, with luck, a tiger or sloth bear.

No. We do not offer elephant-back safaris, for animal-welfare reasons. Our safaris are by jeep, canoe and on foot with experienced naturalist guides.
October to March is pleasant and dry; February to April, when the grass is cut, is the best time to see rhinos and tigers. The park is hot and wet during the monsoon.
